4 Must Have Baby Skincare Products in Your Baby’s Skincare Routine

Baby Skincare Products

As you prepare yourself to welcome your little bundle of joy into this world, there are 4 essential baby care products which you must have in your baby’s hospital bag.

Newborn baby’s skin is highly sensitive, and it is always recommended to choose products wisely, after discussing it with the paediatricians.

This blog will give you an idea about the importance of using these baby skincare products for your baby, which in turn will help you make an informed decision about including them in your baby’s skincare regime.

1. Baby Massage Oil

The newborn baby’s skin is prone to losing moisture, which leads to dryness. So, the paediatricians recommend using non-greasy baby massage oil to massage the baby's skin before the bath, which keeps the baby's skin soft and supple. Baby massage also plays an important role in improving blood circulation and digestion.

The baby massage oil should contain 100% natural ingredients. It should be free from very strong synthetic fragrances, parabens, and other harmful chemicals.

After the massage, it is advisable to wait for an hour or so, to let the baby’s skin absorb the oil, and then take them to bathe.

You can massage your baby once or twice daily.

2. Baby Wash

There are some gentle baby wash brands, which can be used for baby’s hair and skin. They are a two-in-one baby wash. They protect the baby’s skin barrier function so that the skin does not lose its natural oils while maintaining optimum skin hydration.

The paediatricians recommend using a very mild and gentle baby wash, which has a pH of 5.5 and has the ingredients from 100% natural origin. The paediatricians suggest using baby wash which is free from parabens, sulphates, and phthalates.

These can be used two to three times a week for the body, and once a week for their hair.

3. Body moisturiser

Paediatricians recommend using hydrating baby moisturiser as an after-bath routine to lock in the moisture into the baby’s skin. Paediatricians suggest using body lotion at least twice a day for babies with normal skin, and thrice a day for babies with dry skin.

They suggest using moisturiser which has ingredients from 100% natural origin, is fragrance-free, and free from harmful chemicals, and has a pH value of 5.5. Body moisturiser needs to be gently applied to the entire body, avoiding the area near the eyes.

4. Diaper Rash Ointment

It is normal for babies to get diaper rash, especially when their nappy area stays wet, is not cleaned thoroughly or their soil diaper is not changed timely i.e., every 2-3 hours.

Diaper rash ointment creates a barrier between babies’ pee/poo and skin. Paediatricians suggest using an ointment that contains 100% natural ingredients, is free from harmful chemicals, and has a pH of 5.5.

It is recommended to apply a thick paste after each diaper change to create this barrier. This helps in protecting the baby's gentle skin from developing diaper rash and dermatitis.

The baby care products play an important role in maintaining the baby's skin soft and supple, also preventing them from external damage.

Therefore, it is recommended to add these products to your baby’s skincare routine.

All babies have sensitive skin, so it is advisable to ask paediatricians about baby skincare products to help you decide the best ones for your little one.
