Winter Care Tips for Newborn Babies

Some people love summer, & some love monsoon and some love winter. In summer, one can protect himself/herself from heat (global warming is real), by having cold drinks, juices and being in AC or water-cooler-ventilated places.
When it comes to monsoon (the season of fritter & hot ginger tea), there’s no option other than staying at home if it’s raining heavily & continuously, & when it’s not then you can carry an umbrella or raincoat to save yourself from getting drenched in the rain.
In all these 2 seasons, people try to avoid travelling as it either leaves them sunburned, dehydrated or stuck in the rain.
But when it’s winter season, then people love travelling (of course taking their winter clothes to protect from the dropping temperature).
However, this season becomes a daunting task for any new parent as they have to take care of many things to keep their baby healthy (even need to make an Excel sheet).
This blog will make things easier for you by letting you what to do for your baby in Winter:
Winter-Approved: Must Do’s for your newborn baby
-
Clothes: more the layers, the more warm your baby will feel, and the science at work. Dress them in soft, breathable fabric clothes like cotton & wool, then a blanket if it’s baby nap time or while going out.
Don’t forget to cover their head, & toes as any gap from where the chill breeze can enter, can make them fall sick. -
Moisturization: due to more moisture in the air, the skin starts losing water rapidly (Trans epidermal water loss) resulting in dry & flaky skin. To keep their skin moisturized & soft use baby moisturizers which are dermatologically tested, & made of natural ingredients to keep their skin barrier intact.
-
Cold-relief: Winter, cold flu & viral fever go hand-in-hand. In such cases, if a baby catches a cold then it will make them irritable resulting in cries, and sleepless nights as their nose ducts will be blocked. In such a scenario, having a natural cold-relief roll-on can be a saviour.
There are various natural “cold-relief rolls” which are dermatologically tested, made of natural ingredients such as Eucalyptus oil for its anti-viral properties, menthol for relieving nasal congestion etc, & they’re activated by science.
Having these cold relief roll-ons will save you from the hassle of applying ingredients in limited quantities and that too with caution. -
Not too cold nor hot:The sleeping environment of the baby should never be too hot or cold. To protect them against the winter, parents often use heavy clothes and blankets. But this is a strict no, use light & soft clothes & blanket which will save them from catching cold as well as from overheating of their body.
-
bBloating Free: dry air, heavy layering, less physical activity, muscle tightening & slow digestion are the prominent reasons that make a baby’s tummy upset & cause bloating as well as digestion problems. As a precaution use a tummy-roll which is made of Ajwain & hing as one of the ingredients as they have carminative, analgesic properties to keep their stomach free from bloating. Do remember to buy only dermatologically tested products only.
-
Say no to chemicals: We can understand that seeing your baby’s skin dry, & having rashes is a cause of concern for you because you tend to use baby moisturizers, cleansing bars, and baby massage oil which can keep your baby's skin moisturized and soft. But buying any product which can help your baby's skin moisturized & soft should always be:
-
-
Dermatologically tested( can’t compromise)
-
pH 5.5
-
Soap-free( if it’s cleansing bar)
-
Coconut as one of the main ingredient
-
100% Natural ingredients
-
Enzymatically activated
-
If you are using such products which tick-mark all the above things, then it’s amazing, & if not then make sure to check them before buying. Because babies' skin has a thinner stratum corneum (the outer layer of skin), natural moisturizing and skin lipid production is less as compared to adults.
-
Regular Consultation: Make sure to consult your baby’s paediatrician as soon as you see any signs of illness such as coughing, runny nose or fever then consult the paediatrician to make sure the baby stays healthy.
All Is Well
These simple steps will make sure that your baby will keep laughing, make your home and life lively, & peaceful sleep for them & even you (if the baby won’t sleep then how will he/she let you sleep).
